Part Two is about the Turkestan Battalion -- local volunteers for Hitler against Stalin. It's new to me and pretty interesting. Focus remains cultural. Central Asia under Stalinism and what attitudes the German army takes.

Then there's 100 pages of Stalingrad and a pow camp. I'm sorry I am skipping. It might be great but I am too homed in on the Central Asian content to read pages with only German and Italian names. I'd better not take up 'Life and Fate' in this mode.
