Jayson is starting
Notes:
(1) Thanks to the authors for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
- That was two years ago (yikes!). Apologies for the delay. Frankly, it's about as long as authors are going to have to wait for me to review books they send me. But I don't forget, and I keep my word.
(2) I don't usually accept review requests, but this book ticked all the boxes in my screening process. So I'm happy to oblige.

Notes:
(1) I'm very close to the end now, and will probably get this done later today. Like I said at the beginning, I finish books quicker than I start them.
(2) I'm dithering between a three and four star rating, I can't decide. Just when I think I've made up my mind about it, I'll read something that snaps me into a whirlwind of indecision again. Honestly, the end of the book will probably make all the difference.

Notes:
(1) On one hand, this is one of the most vulgar books I've ever read, and that type of humor's not really my cup of tea. On the other hand, it's clever about it all, and I'm not going to hold that against it. Clever is clever.
(2) The biggest flaw I see is inconsistency. Right now, the story's cruising along, but at the start it was all over the place, and it took me a while to figure out what I'd gotten into.

Notes:
(1) Halfway through this, and it seems to be coming together well. Perhaps this book was written in chunks over a long period of time, because it seems to have mellowed out to a single recognizable style. I know what it's trying to be now, in other words.
(2) Hopefully, I'll get this done before the end of the month. I don't like books to drag. I tend to read novels quicker as they go on, so it's in the cards.

Notes:
(1) I can definitely detect two distinct writers. It'd be interesting to find out which of the co-authors wrote which parts, and compare them to my suspicions.
(2) I don't care for shock humor. So it's little wonder the parts of the book I like best are the ones absent mentions of orifices, dangly bits and the like.
(3) I'm getting through this at a good pace. Generally, I read first-person narratives quicker.

Notes:
(1) Two chapters in, and I don't quite know what to make of this. So far as the comedy goes, it's a sort of Looney Tunes setup with a Tom Green Show punchline.
(2) I still don't know what the deal is with the two main characters. They're sort of aristocrat adventurers, but that's the extent of my awareness. Do they work for some government agency? or are they simply idle rich? I'd like that spelled out better.

Notes:
(1) Been reading this book for a few days now, and just finished the first chapter. That's not unusual, I'm almost always slow out of the gate with novels.
(2) This is an interesting concept. On the surface you have a kind of Edwardian, public school, upper class main characters, which play against its absurdist, crass, shock humor. I get it. A lot of it sounds funnier on paper than in action, but I do get it.

Notes:
(1) This is an easy read. I could do with more fluid prose though. So far, the writing feels tight, intentional and bristly. There's a whole lot of telling and not nearly enough showing. But it's an easy read.
(2) This begins with a back and forth epistolary exchange between its two main characters. I'm not feeling it. There's not enough character distinction to pay off the gimmick. May as well be a monologue.
