Even without having read this book this quote seems very powerful! I am really glad to see that it helped you to grasp a better understanding of Catherine and her life. Thanks!!

Towards the end of the book, I came across a few very interesting lines. When Catherine realized the damnation of her fate, through both internal and external conflicts, it dawned upon her the reality of death. She says, “No matter who you are in life, no matter who stood by you, when you face death you face it alone.” (page 275) This quote particularly stood out to me because of the inevitable truth behind it. It is a firm belief of mine that indeed when death comes, you leave everyone and everything material behind. You must face it alone whether you like it or not. It seemed very unusual for these words to be coming from a lavish queen, considering how very little she thought of death prior to this moment. Pressure from the court and her own wrongdoings led her to the reality of the consequences of what was very much expected to come but avoided by her own negligence. Despite the countless scenarios of the apparent motifs embedded upon these pages, even I didn’t expect such a dramatic ending. I have to say that the ending was a truly powerful one.
