So far in the story the protagonist has confronted his "enemy" who put him un the hospital. AT first there was hatred, but over the course of the book it seems their relationship is growing. Also there is a strong connection between these characters in that they in some ways want each others lives.

In what I have read so far many things have happened. David has been very busy with school and has joined student government. Due to this David is not able to hang out with Danny. Danny continues to read Freud and fines how it contradicts everything he has learned in his religion on human morality. On top of this when Danny and David finally do get together David's father gets sick and later has a heart attack.

Through his new experiences with the orthodox jews Holden has been accepted by their society in his intellect and understanding of the torah. Danny's father seems to like and trust David. With this new trust Danny's father asks David about Danny and how he has been reading forbidden books. On top of this new conflict David is still trying to understand why Danny does not talk to his father.

At this point in the book the protagonist has finally confronted his new friend, Danny. With this the protagonist is thrown into a new world of the jewish community. While he is there he learns how Danny is just as respected as his father being his son. This new culture is slightly uncomfortable and meeting Danny's father should bring even more interesting interactions.

I am now at the point of the story where the protagonists is hospitalized from an accident at a baseball game. He needed surgery and is scared that he will become blind just like the boy next to him. While all of this is going on D-Day is occurring adding more conflict within the plot.
