Oookaaay.... after that plot twist, not sure that I want to finish this book. Sometimes Mr. Cook decides that he wants to be creative, but this one was kinda mind-bogglingly stupid. I'll think about it though.

"Being cooperative with anyone who has anything to do with the US Senate is not high on my priority list at the moment." Relatable.

Let's just spout exposition at each other for 2 paragraphs, lol. Not because this is the way normal humans talk, but because this is backstory for our characters that the author couldn't naturally integrate into the actual narrative.... (I've long accepted this as a trope of genre fiction, but still gets a little irritating sometimes.)
