One of the gifts of fiction, he tells his students, is the cover it provides. A story can be 1% true and 99% made up, or 99% true and 1% made up, and the reader won't know the difference, the writer doesn't have to declare. It means he can tell the truth and take the Fifth simultaneously.

Sarah, I'm really liking it at this point but we'll see where I end up. I've always liked this type of spare prose.
