tatterpunk Ooh ooh ooh I really want to hear what you think of this one. I read it far too young to be objective, personally.

I'll try to get around to typing up my thoughts for you, but it has now been awhile since I read it!

tatterpunk Whoops, I can see that, now! I wonder why your latest update is dated 2013?

I'm sorry if you didn't enjoy it -- I can imagine it might wear a little thin in today's market, which has so many diverse high fantasy offerings. I read it looooooooooong ago (we're talking almost 20 years), and it was a revelation just in the fact it was a) not a Tolkien clone, b) set in somewhere other than pseudo-England, and c) had a surplus of female characters. I think I've read and re-read it too many times since to be anything but inured to its shortcomings, so it would be interesting to hear how they present to fresher eyes. I still believe it's one of the better stories about war and fish-out-of-water female warriors.

Miquela I would like to reread it now so that we could have a "real" conversation about it. Alas, it is back in France. I do know that I enjoyed many of things you did about it, but I think (don't quote me!) it was mostly some repetitive bits that got to me and some bits that didn't compute, as in I wasn't able to suspend belief (frex, why do A instead of B), but again...going to claim too much time has passed. :P

However! I am still very glad you recommended it to me.
