He finds the voice to be a doll in the book it was around a small tree with bottles on the branches he grabs the backpack and says. "Give me my book back!" he tries to get Gum Baby to let go but she won't he quickly starts hitting the tree. "Stop." Gum baby yells. Suddenly a hole to the center of the earth appears and Tristan and Gum baby fall for an eternity he falls into a lake and saves Gum baby from drowning.

Tristan helps with the feather lings but has to go get a story box he sets off on the flying raft to a palace to find a story box.

Tristan wakes up in the thicket and meets the gods of the land he finds out that they have fought the feather lings before and that they will need to fight them again Tristan finds out that he has a power when he tells stories his surroundings will act like a projector for the story he uses his power and he uses a charm from eddies journal to help him with his power the thicket gets attacked by the feather lings

He is then grabbed and is dragged away but the eddies journal opens up and out comes a giant book guardian then he realizes the book guardian is Eddie the guardian saves him but is quickly dragged away but Tristan does not want to lose his friend again he runs to his friend but cannot catch up he then cries by a dead tree and quickly passes out.

Tristan is greeted with someone who looks like his age and a bunch of animals in cloaks once they are on foo. Tristan finds out they are being tracked by these snakes that are made of chains they clamp down on there victims and drag then through the forest to there boss. When they are outnumbered they know what has to be done quickly the oversized bunny jumps into the hundreds of snakes and is dragged away!

after saving her from drownings he is quickly saved from a flying raft from bone ships that are heading your way. He then finds out that Gum baby has been gone a year and they are heading to the thicket once they make it to land they travel on foot for a while.

Tristan wakes up in the night to a shadow stealing his book. "Gum baby must find it" the shadow whispers in the dark. The shadow reaches into his backpack and pulls out the book i quickly yell. " hey give that back." The shadow leaps out of the window he quickly leaps out behind it quickly grabbing a flashlight on the way. He followed it through the corn fields only following because of the voice.

this is so good it is about a boy that gets a book from a friend that passed away but the book is glowing he gets sent to his grand parents farm because his caruncle said it would be good for him.
