"I come in peace" was the intended subtext , " I don't think your country is any worse than mine and I have no Intention of patronizing you"

In the new Russia , getting a PhD and being able to quote the poems of Anna Akhmatova was no longer enough to command respect. The elite were identified by cash and how flashily they could spend it.
