I remember trying to read this book when I was around 14, and I just couldn’t get into it. I had the same problem with The Witching Hour back then. As an adult, I revisited the Chronicles of the Mayfair Witches and loooved them. This is another example of that. I completely forgot that this book even dealt with a sexual sadist/murderer as well as what I remember it for. It is an excellent story.
