I love the first few chapters which gives an insightful backstory for the character of young Genia Sareyov in 1950s Leningrad, Russia. She grows up fairly quickly after finding out her mother left her, her brother and her disfigured "monstrous" father for a fellow actor. Gives great historical references also. Onto chapter 3!
