Just read chapter 2, I think it's funny how so much time passes in the shire before anything happens. Also that Frodo is already 50 years old (or 49? Since the book spoke of "his 50th year"). It's enjoyable to get such a complete story from Gandalf before the journey, yet understandable why there is so much more mystery as well as urgency in the films.

It's been months, a lot has happened, but I finally managed to get myself to read again, albeit at a strange time. Just read chapter 1, it was nice to read so many lines recognizable from the films. Two things I noticed: the famous quote "a wizard is never late nor is he early he arrives precisely when he means to" is not in the book! Also, no stolen firework! But I understand why they did what they did in the films.

I also noticed that Gandalf suggested the name Underhill to Frodo, which as far as I can remember doesn't happen in the film, Frodo seemingly just makes up that name on the spot. And of course Aragorn is already mentioned by name, no "Strider" in the books, but I already knew that.
