Thank you to Doug for sending me a review copy. This is the literary event that no one knows about. The first English translation of Kilpi’s work to be published. And if you read The Untranslated blog, then you’d know about Kilpi’s untranslated masterpiece Alastalon salissa, compared to Ulysses and Proust. In the meantime, we have this, which is a 'transcreation'--read the book's crazy description to learn more.

This sounds very interesting, George. Have you read Frigyes Karinthy's two Gulliver novels? They're great fun.

But it's one of those things, like with Moby-Dick or Homer's epics, where you know the gist of it because it's so ingrained in the culture, so I don't think I need to read it to enjoy this translation, which isn't to suggest I don't want to read Swift at some point. He's indeed on my list, and I'll be sure to check out those other Gulliver novels you mention too. Thanks for the recs!
