Hmm... a bit more of a happy dappy ending than I was hoping for, but still a decent enough read.

Ah. That does make a tiny bit of sense. Still pretty screwed up.

Further in the book, more explanation. Halliday is still a twisted sick fuck.

Ah. Now we discover the difference between AI Halliday and IRL Halliday, at least memory-wise. Sorta.

Looks like the fanfiction story revelation is canon? If so, well done.

Ah, the Big Red Button. Wonder if it actually ever worked or will work?

I never thought I'd be reading about a large battle with various Prince NPCs. I also didn't realize that Prince had gone Jehovah's Witness and adopted their mindset towards gay marriage towards the end of his life. That's really sad!

Yay! The cool character Lo came back! Not a new woman in Wade's life, though, which I'm glad about.

I'm leaning towards Halliday being a level 10 creep and the AI just enhancing all of his worst traits, making it into a monster.
I imagine that this is likely what many felt like when they read the novel for Jurassic Park after seeing the movie and its cuddly version of the park's owner, who was a complete and total asshole in the book.

Halliday made a complete copy of Kira using the Oni device. He then contained her in a standalone simulation and talked to her for years, trying to get her love him.
She didn't.
He also didn't delete her or try to give her freedom. Halliday kept her caged until he died. Or at least split her soul up into pieces. Then when he died, he sent Og an email letting him know that an AI of his wife exists.
Imagine dealing with the death of your wife and coming to terms with that, while knowing that your friend had a huge hardon for her. Then knowing that said "friend" copied your wife's brain and made his own AI of her, then kept said AI to himself, imprisoned. Then when he realized that the AI wouldn't love him AND that he did a screwed up thing, rather than try to make it right directly he chose to split the AI up into pieces.
Then he turned everything into a game for his successor. He knew that there was an AI of him and that the AI was screwed up. He tried to remove his memories of Kira, but only made him MEGA screwed up. Rather than delete him, assuming he could, he left it alive.
Halliday is a sick, sick man. Even when he realized what he was doing wrong, he was still royally screwed up.
