"The water of the brook moved quickly in little lighted ripples; on the other side the grass grew down to the edge of the water and yellow and blue and blue flowers leaned the heads over; there was a rounded soft hill there[...] and far away, the great hills, still catching the light of the sun" (Jackson 55) I like this quote because it shows how even though Hill House is a scary place, it still has its pretty sides.

"People {..] are always so anxious to get things out into the open where they can put a name to them, even a meaningless name, so long as it has something of a scientific ring" (Jackson 75-76). I like this quote because it shows how it is human nature to always try their best to explain everything using science. It shows how much we rely on science to explain everything in life that does not make sense.

"Mrs. Dudley is probably the only true surviving member of the family to whom Hill House really belongs. I think she is only waiting until all the Sanderson heirs--that's you, Luke--die off in various horrible ways, and then she gets the house and fortune in jewels buried in the cellar" (Jackson 70). I like this quote because it shows Mrs. Dudley's true intentions of staying at Hill House for so long.

"No human eye can isolate the unhappy coincidence of line and place which suggests evil in the face of a house, [...] turned Hill House into a place of despair, [...] with a watchfulness from the blank windows and a touch of glee in the eyebrow of a cornice" (Jackson 35). I like this quote because it describes the setting of Hill House and how it gives off an unsettling vibe really well.

"For the first time in hours, she thought of her sister and laughed [...] they would be incredulously that they would never have expected it of Eleanor. I would never have suspected it from myself" (Jackson 28) This is the part where Eleanor steals her sister's car. Eleanor is seen as an obedient character who never breaks rules. I like this part because it shows how Eleanor is stepping out of her comfort zone.

"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream" (Jackson 1). This quote is saying that no living creature can possibly live sanely if they only experience the true reality of the world. I like this quote because it shows the importance of a dream and how it helps keep everyone sane by allowing them to escape reality
