I had to stop reading this kind of book because I began to feel so hopelss. Everything the human species does these days seems to screw up nature and industry is so powerful it often seems our individual actions to reverse the damage get lost. I prefer to bury my head in the sand and make conscious decisions that I feel do less harm and leave it at that. Good luck reading.

Amy....I finished this last night. It does feel hopeless, but I feel this author makes it clear what we can do on a small scale, that will help and lead us in the right direction. There is no way I can afford to buy entirely organic. But, while reading the book, I made a list of the things that would be most important to my family to change. The biggest problem, I think, is corn because it's in EVERYTHING in one shape or form. So, I will start making a conscious effort with corn based things and soybeans (which we eat a lot of) in addition to the things that were already important to me. And just having my little plot of earth in my own back yard that I can strive to remain chemical free is a huge contribution to the environment. At the end of the book she outlined the history of tobacco farming, the environmental harm therein, and the struggle to make everyone see the health harm.....we've come a LONG way with that alone....so it's not impossible for organic farming to go the same distance even in our kids' lifetime.
