A characteristic Ellen G. White uses to describe God is a sinless, righteous being. For example, Ellen G. White said, "When the Son of Man shall come in his glory, and all his holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered all nations." (White, 350). This suggests that God is a man of high authority and pure nature and therefore regarded higher than all.

In The Great Controversy, one challenge John Wycliffe (and the Christians) had to face was staying strong in faith while the church of Rome forced them to practice their religion. He says, "covetousness, pride, and deception were the gods of Rome" (White 85). This shows that the Romans were unwilling to let people worship anyone but the pope so they deceived and forced people to submit to their religion.
