Since GR doesn't allow you to write statuses, I'm asking you all this here. I am in a major funk where I'm finding it near impossible to read anything. I'm surviving my book quota on audiobooks alone which is usually not how I roll. I'm reading this book for a book club I am particularly excited about. I still have time, but want to ask other people: what do you do when you're having trouble focusing on the print?

Gillespie's clinical style makes this somewhat easier to bear, but I already knew many of these horrors. That said, I want to hand this to every veg who eschews flesh but not dairy as well as every localvore who thinks their farmers market animal products are admirable choices. Even if "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism," I guarantee that before and after it falls, dairy farming is inherently unethical.

As to the original question, I usually read something really short, but something that was still published as a standalone physical book. A poetry chapbook, or something with a lot of illustrations, etc. This gives me a sense of accomplishment because "it's a book". After one (two...three...four...five) of these, I usually feel more up to reading a longer book! Of course YMMV :)
