Although there’s a new book called “Debunking Howard Zinn” (the author), I have also seen in my short time no indication of bias. Apparently the debunker challenges the historicity of Zinn’s scholarship, so I’ll read it next.

Zinn doesn’t make me feel less good about America. We all kind of know about our dark past. Rather I wanted to acquire greater empathy.

Nancy Lauer Interesting. I’m about half way through - I’m enjoying it more by not plowing through it - and I’m definitely learning about things that I never knew. I was not a student of history, and maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention in American History class, but I don’t believe that is the whole reason for the enlightenment the book provides. I think my version of learned American history was sanitized and whitewashed. But that said, Zinn makes some conclusions that are rightly subject to scrutiny. I’ll check out the book you referenced.
Thankfully American history curriculums seem to have improved tremendously since I was in high school. My kids are much more “woke” to the motivations of our founding fathers, than I was.
