I'm purely guessing at my page count because this book doesn't have the pages numbered. That fact alone hints at the care that was taken to get this book right. Death needs no page numbers.

When I want to ballpark my progress through a book without cracking it (do not test my laziness), I look at where the magnetic clasp bookmarks I use are on the side of the block relative to its thickness, go "That's about 30%...", and specify as much. It's more intuitive in the mobile app as it has a discreet field below the page number field on the Update Progress screen; on desktop, the text "page number" is actually a toggle which, when clicked, switches to "percentage".
