Oh, Vi. The opium has proven itself and so has Will. The Dago is a bust and shooting morphine works better? Why, dear, why.........

Up and running again after a short pause. Better and better, Vi dishes and doesn't disappoint. The best kind of storytelling.

What a priceless documentary of an era gone by. One can't but fall in love with Vi: sympathetic, innocent, victimized, and still the champion of her circumstances. The rich technical detail on the obscure subject matter of Vi & Will's occupation is worthy of the highest recognition. The only matters keeping the reader from total bliss are Will's despicable transgressions...as benign as they're made out to be by Vi.

Captivating. Elegant. Enigmatic. Brilliant. Heart-rending. I am transported to a new world & into a new person as wholly as ever. The prose is unassuming but still among the most beautiful I've read. It stands alongside well known classics. I thought the book would be compelling based on its subject, but there's much, much more. It's a triumph, unique, and I can already tell I'll be reading it a second time.
