Years of shielding herself from anyone outside her family made it difficult to resolve this growing fascination with Trip’s passion and strength and almost poignant patience with her. He liked to touch and she…liked him touching her.

“Sorry, I’ve got to do this.” Trip’s deep voice seemed to hold a real apology as he stuffed the letter inside his vest and pulled Max’s leash from her fingers. “But the closer you are to me, the safer you’ll be.”

“I’ll do whatever you want. Just don’t hurt my dog.” She’d refused to give up the fight or listen to reason for her own safety? But she’d surrender for the dog’s sake? Although her golden lashes still glistened with tears, her eyes were suddenly clear, focused and looking right up into Trip’s.
