I'm DEAD.
THIS WAS PERFECT.

Choices for future spouse:
• this book
• my unbelievably perfect playlist for this book (Spotify link)
• Addie LaRue from this book
• the devil in this book (yep ok this last one is probably not a sane choice)

“Want is for children. If this were want, I would be rid of you by now. I would have forgotten you centuries ago,” he says, a bitter loathing in his voice. “This is need. And need is painful but patient. Do you hear me, Adeline? I need you. As you need me. I love you, as you love me.”

“I can be stubborn as the weeds and you will not root me out. And I think you are glad of it. I think that’s why you’ve come, because you are lonely too.”

“Do not mistake this—any of it—for kindness, Adeline.” His eyes go bright with mischief. “I simply want to be the one who breaks you.”
I mean, SWOOOON ANYONE? (no I'm not crazy—okay maybe a little—but I swear I only swoon over the devil in fiction)
This ship is 999% gonna be a wreck and I cannot wait to be wrecked along with it.

I hate this book
I hate Schwab
I hate ME
I hate YOU
I HATE THE WORLD
Because, for the first time in 300 years, she draws, and it hurts and I'm FORKING CRYING NONSTOP

And for this dark god's sake I need to stop with the “music + book” thing bc the playlist is making it WORSE

Types of casual conversations I dream of having in my daily life ↓
him: you said you were born in 1691, that makes you...
her: three hundred and twenty-three
him: *whistles* i’ve never been with an older woman
him: *looks at her 23-year-old-looking face* and you do look very, very good for your age
her: why thank you

“And yet, you are unmarried?”
“No,”she says, “I confess, I do not want a master, and I’ve yet to find an equal.”
You guys be careful, because the glorious feminism of this book has added 300 years to my life and I'll be haunting Goodreads swooning over this masterpiece for the next three centuries.

Reading this book is the definition of an abusive relationship:
It kisses u lovingly, then stabs u in the heart, kisses u again, then stab stab, and u are too in love to break the cycle.
It hurts bye I'mma go die.

Are all of Schwab's books this gorgeously painful or is this the only one I'd have to suffer through?

The dark and the ghost
They dance so sweet and slow
The stage is set
The game is dawning
The war has begun
LET THE GHOST AND THE DARK GOD DANCE

(↑me rn if I had a fancy suit)

Two women stumble into a house of canvas and paint
all lips and love and lacking restraint.
A painter.
A wanderer.
The painter's wondering gaze glued on her wandering lover's face
mind opening with her muse's lace
she paints her as the night sky in haze.
Come light the painter wakes to see the art she remembers not.
And thus she names it so:
“One Forgotten Night.”
One vanished love.
One invisible Adeline LaRue.

Tom wrote: "Are the MCs like Jude and Cardan by any chance ? I miss Folk of the air series and would love to read something similar."Hmmm, they do have a similar dynamic in the sense that it's about who can win and get the upper hand, but it's more severe than with Jude and Cardan because here the devil can and does hurt and help and generally use Addie as he likes without Addie having equal power to do the same to him, tho she does try in the ways she can and win many times; but they're not on equal footing (unlike Jude and Cardan) and the fact that they are a “ship” is because he is all that Addie has.
So I'd say where Jude and Cardan had a toxic relationship based on power and later grew and loved eachother, the relationship between our devil and ghost in this book is not, in any way, love, and is rather abusive (and the author is acknowledging this and not romanticising it).
BUT, it's still very fun to read, as it IS a game. So I think you'd enjoy this and should definitely read it.
