The reason why so few people understand painting is because they rack their brains & want something that pleases the eye & so they miss what is most exalted. If one reads a verse & pays attention only to the metre or to whatever the words are spelt correctly, then one obviously can't apreciate the ideas the poet wants to communicate. In life, too, i consider simplicity, child-like simplicity, the highest virtue.
