The end of this was fantastic, and a perfect culmination of all of the events of the book. Unlike the Promise of Blood where it took a while to pick up, this read was enjoyable start to finish. Characters are great, plot good, action fantastic. Brian McClellan has certainly grown in his craft and it shows in this first book. Now on to book 2!

Vlora noooo! Lindet was a terrible person anyway, but the stunt she pulled against Vlora in this final stretch...I hope she decides to do things on her own from now on. A huge character flaw for her has always been bad choices and lapses in judgement, so I hope she can overcome it after this last event. Also think I have an idea as to what the enemy is doing, but we'll see what happens in these last six chapters.

Talk about crazy escalations! The relationships in this book are so sweet, really nice to see the progression of them. Michel and his Mother are so nice, and so are vlora and Olem, and 2 other characters I can't name cuz major spoilers. But so happy to see the gang all develop after the Powder Mage trilogy into such dynamic, honorable people, can't wait to see them interact more as this crazyness continues.

Yay everyone is on the same page! For the most part. Vlora's interaction with a certain spoiler of a character was really nice, and I hope they get on the same page soon. But her and Ben teaming up is great, nervous about what will happen next, though. Such a good read, keeps me on my toes! Still so many mysteries ayaaah~

Snaaap this stretch of the book is so action packed and so many reveals! Everything is making sense now, and Michel's reveals plot wise so far are the ones that made me gasp! The author shows how masterfully he plots out is world, just instantly kicking into high gear and it flowing as well as the setup and lulls. AHHHH so hyped to read the rest of this, so well done! Excited to see more cameos!

I forgot how much of a slow burn these books are but geez the plot just escalated! Poor Ben, feel for him but also not because this is all a mess. I have a guess as to who Mama Pallow is, we'll see if I'm right. Olem remains awesome, love seeing more depth to him and Vlora since I really liked them as side characters, so them as mains is epic. This house of cards is nuts though, can't wait to see what happens next!

The mysteries in this book are really interesting. This 1 is far more polished plot wise over the Powder Mage trilogy. Tampo is a really interesting character too, can't get a read on him. vlora and Olem are the pairing I didn't realize I needed, their love and support for 1 another is just so sweet and hearing more about it during the 11 year stretch before the book is great. Ice Baron is a fab character also

Vlora and Olem are beyond cute. It's nice to see them fleshed out a bit more after being minor characters in the 1st series, and seeing how their relationship flourished in 10 years is so sweet. Really great tie ins to the previous series, and the world building continues to be superb. Michel is the weakest link character wise: while I find his plot interesting, his talking to himself tick is kinda irritating.

Finally getting to this book after buying it on sale last year lol. Actually liking the setup for this 1 a lot more than in the Powder Mage series. Probs helps that I like all the main chars more, Vlora is a far more interesting Mc (couldn't stand Tamas). Only 1 I super liked was Adamat in series 1, so nice to like all 3 POVs and curious to see where this will go after all the setup - which was also well done.
