I would say to Liesel, the main character, to take a deep breath before talking and sharing your thoughts. I would say this because in the book she speaks her mind whether the society thinks it is right or wrong. For example, when they are burning the books she tells her foster dad that she doesn’t like Hitler. Luckily, only her foster dad heard her and nobody didn’t tell the Nazi Party.

In my book, the expectations are that everyone is apart of the Nazi Party. Another expectation is that everyone is supposed to fly the flag of Germany on Hitler’s birthday. A rule is that students need to follow the rules and use appropriate language or else the get whipped. Something that is considered wrong is to be a Jew during this time period.

In this book called The Book Thief, there are many archetypes. One in particular is a safe haven known as the mayor’s wife’s library for Liesel. The library is used so that Liesel could read during the summer afternoons, reminding her of her brother who passed away and her mom. This is a symbol of her mom and brother because last time they saw each other she saw a book which reminded her of them.

One of the connections I can make is a book to self connection. A mayor’s wife is always very quiet when Liesel drops off the laundry. I can make a connection to her because I can also be very quiet sometimes as well.

The Book Thief is about a girl named Liesel Meminger’s new life in Molching, Germany with her foster parents during World War II. These things are happening because Liesel’s real mother dropped her off at a foster care center where her foster parents picked her up. This story is told in alternating chapters meaning some chapter are flashbacks or flash forwards while some are in chronological order.
