Lol this ye olde description of a unicorn says its super badassity is because its horn makes it invincible. So if it's being chased, it'll run up a cliff and throw itself off, but turn in midair so that it lands on its horn--thereby cushioning the shock and the unicorn is able to run away unharmed. Awesome.

That's probably one of the worst things I've ever heard, that "poison cures poison".

Castor the Beaver is a story about a type of beaver that is hunted for its testicles, so when it spots a hunter, it bites off its bits and throws them at the hunter. If a second hunter shows up, the beaver flips over so he can see there are no bits. This is an allegory about how Christians need to cast off lewdness into the face of the Devil so he'll leave them alone. Also Castor = castration. Thx, Physiologus!

Chapter 3 was interesting but dry, concerning how the unicorn ended up in the Bible. Not as many unsupported leaps to conclusion here as in previous chapters, thank goodness.

I see why the ratings on this book are so low. It is written like a B+ research paper, which is to say that it is factual, cites its sources, leaps to occasional conclusions and makes some rather bizarre statements without really supporting them, and overall is rather dull.
