Hot take, but thus far... I think the movie was better. Not even the balrog scene was very dramatic in the way that he wrote it. I feel like I was waiting for this moment because I knew it was going to make the dry beginning feel worthwhile and I just did not get that pay-off. It was over in an instant. Sorely disappointed! Kind of just want to finish it as soon as possible so I can give The Two Towers a shot.

There's so much singing in this audio book! I feel bad for the old man narrating tbh. Also I feel like not a whole lot is happening even though i'm slightly over half way done. The movie made it feel more eventful somehow.
