The little puppy comes across Indians who previously had owned Kinche or the puppy's mom. They name the little cub White Fang. They are forced to stay with the Indians because they catch the mom and tie here next to the teepees. later they let the mom loose but does not run away. The owner is forced to sell Kinch and is separated from White Fang. White Fang does not run away and stays at the camp just in case his mom

After having been treated badly and the previous owners beating him with a stick, White Fang is finally bought buy Scott, whose bulldog won in a fight with White Fang. Scott finds out that White Fang is a very smart dog and treats him nicely. Because of this treatment the dog becomes less vicious and more loving o his master, eventually saving the masters father from murder by a convict.

The She- wolf gives birth to cubs, and they all die in the early stages except for the one that most resembles a wolf. He is clearly the strongest in the litter. Because food was scarce both parents had to go look for food. On one of the trips the father is killed by Indians in their camp. The narrator tells us that the only surviving puppy learns from experience. The cub just excepts thing without any questions.

The story goes on to just talk about the she wolf and how she mates. After looking for food herself and the pack a wolves come across a moose and finally is able to become full. Because food is plenty the pack splits up by mates. The she-wolf has to be fought over by the young leader, old one eye leader and the three year old wolf. The one eye kills both of them and is able to mate with the female wolf.

The book starts off with Henry and Bill in some cold snowy land on a trip. On their sled they have six dogs and one deceased man who is said to be rich. As they camp out each night a shewolf comes and steals food and also takes a dog. At the end of chapter 2 they are left with 3 dogs.
