The Greasers begin walking back from the movies with Cherry and Marcia, but two Socs come and forcefully drive the girls away. Later, Johnny and Ponyboy fall asleep in a parking lot and after getting yelled at by Darrel, he meets Johnny at a fountain around 2 am. The group of Socs see the two greasers and jump them, beginning to drown Ponyboy, but Johnny stabs one of them and they are scared off, with one Socs dying.

The greasers are worried about Johnny being either dead or paralyzed. Sodapop loses his girlfriend Sandy after impregnating her and Randy talks to Soda and Ponyboy, somewhat complimenting them for what they did. Ponyboy is informed he will be sent to juvenile court, and gets worried about whether the family will stay together. Later, they prepare for the rumble and Ponyboy talks to Cherry about seeing their sunset.

Make-Up for last week: Johnny and Ponyboy get some food and cigarettes, preparing to lay low and avoid the cops. To disguise himself, Ponyboy bleaches his hair, while Johnny insists they should just cut it off. Ponyboy talks about his conflicting views on Dally and says he wants to confess to his crime. Later, a fire breaks out at the church while the boys are outside and they go in to rescue some boys stuck inside

2/2 There’s a strange reaction to Johnny’s words, and Cherry is confused by it. Later, she goes to buy snacks with Sodapop and he explains the story through a flash back. After, they return to their seats and finish watching the movie.

At the drive in, the greaser end up sitting next to two Socs girls, Cherry and Marcia. Dally begins flirting with them, but the girls show no interest. Annoyed with Dally, they look towards Ponyboy, thinking he is also going to act like Dally. After Ponyboy says he won’t, they ask him what his name is, compliment him and his brother, and Johnny tells Dally to stop bothering the two girls. 1/2

*make up for last weeks update* Towards the end of Chapter 1, we are introduced to the rest of the Greasers. Ponyboy also describes the type of girls he likes, eventually talking about Sodapop’s girlfriend Sandy, a Blonde, blue eyed greaser. After, Ponyboy, Sodapop, and a few other greasers head to a nearby drive-in.

Ponyboy is a Greaser and while walking home, is jumped by the rival Socs, and is threatened with a knife and told that the Socs are going to give him a haircut and cut off that “long greasy hair”. He tries to scream for help, and the Socs run away as Darry, Ponyboy’s oldest brother, comes to the rescue and helps Ponyboy calm down after the traumatic experience.
