Ponyboy and Johnny fell asleep in the parking lot and when Ponyboy went home Darry slapped him. Ponyboy ran out of the house back to Johnny. They went to the park and the Socs went up to them and started fighting them. Johnny killed one of them and Ponyboy was shocked. They went to Dally to ask for help, so Dally gave them money and a gun and they left. They left to another place and hid in an abanded church.

Johnny and Ponyboy had stayed in the abandoned church for abut 5 day before Dally had come. They went to a restaurant and when heading back to the church they saw it was on fire. They heard little kids in there so they went in and got them out. Johnny got stuck in and Dally went to help. They were carried to the hospital. Ponyboy didn't have a bad injury and was fine. His brothers came worried.

Ponboy, Johnny, and Dally went to a drive thru movie. They saw two Socs girls and Dally started to talk to them, but one of them was not happy with him and spilled a coke on him. Johnny stopped him and Dally left. The girls names were Cherry and Marcia they were nice to Ponyboy and Johnny. They were talking and sat next to each other, then Two-Bit came and sat with them. Two-Bit and Marcia seemed to get along.

Ponyboy is the main character in this book. He is a greaser and has 2 older brothers. When he was walking home from the movies he got jumped by some socs. They were about to hurt him when his brothers and gang came to save him. Ponyboy was the youngest in the gang. His brothers, Darry and Sodapop noticed that his head was bleeding cause the socs must of cut him.
