When they return to there home Pony finds out that Johhny and Dally are in critical condition, but Pony is also happy to be reunited with his family and his friends. Pony is worried that Johhny will be crippled for the rest of his life, but he tries to be positive and not think about it. I hope Johhny doesn't become a cripple or even dead.

Johhny and Pony have run away, and are hiding out in a church. Dally comes to the church and they all go to Dairy Queen, where Johhny talks about turning himself in, but Dally convinces him not to. When they go back to the church it is burning up. They spring into action and save some kids that were in there. The next time Pony wakes up he is in an ambulance.

Ponyboy and Johhny get into a fight after Ponyboy ran away from home. He is dunked underwater but is suddenly released, he then realizes that Johhny stabbed a Soc. They are now on the run and think they can never go back.

Ponyboy, Johhny, and Dally all went to the drive-in. Dally tried to pick up a few girls but ended up getting coke thrown at his face. Then Ponyboy and Johhny started to talk to them. Then they got up and sat next to them. Once it was over they decided to walk them home.

Chapter one is a lot of establishing the characters. Later in Chapter one, Ponyboy can't stop thinking about the Socs and why they hate the greasers. He was also thinking that Darry didn't love him and he lied to himself that he did.

In the Outsiders the first person to be introduced in Ponyboy, who has two brothers, Soda and Daryl. They live together because their parents died in an auto wreck. As Ponyboy is walking home he gets attacked by their rival gang, the Socs, but Daryl comes to save him before the Socs did some serious damage.
