Jonas notices that after his ceremony everyone seems to be different around him. They seem hesitant. Even Asher. When Jonas mets the Giver for training the Giver appears as a wise old, frail, smart man. He tells Jonas that he will pass on everything to him. He will pass on life its self, everything, memories, the outside world. Jonas is astounded he will be learn all the amazing secrets. I think Jonas will learn all

Jonas has been picked to be a pupil of the Giver. That is his task in life. It is extremely rare that someone is picked to be trained to be the Giver. He has been chosen because he is number 1 intelligent, courageous, and because of his hard work and special qualities. The Elders and the Giver say he will experience brutal pain during his training. He is scared yet proud. His parent and Lily are so proud.

Jonas is nearing the ceremony of 12. The year when age won't count anymore and he will be assigned a job. He is nervous yet excited. Also Jonas is worried about his friend Asher who is never really serious and always gets in trouble. Many community wide announcements have been directed at him

They live in such a strange world. Jonas and his people have no worries. Everyone is assigned a job which is done. They are governed by the Elders. They get assigned jobs such as birthmothers who make babies and give them to society, planners, nurturers, architects, etc. People get kids only 2. These children aren't actually kids of the their parents. Also they take pills to stop dreams. Their world is very weird.
