And now the protagonist is so emotionally distant that I feel no connection at all, as the reader. I want to like this book but the writing style leaves much to be desired. :/

Wow, the POV character is, at best, a petulant brat... :/

Nicci It's been years since reading Wraeththu. I know of a fantastic fan fiction that left me quite satisfied with Pell and Cal. Let me know if interested.

Rhianon I'll give anything a go (obviously) for a couple hundred pages, so I'm definitely interested in someone else's take on these two. Constantine didn't push any of my buttons, thus far, more's the pity.

Nicci Here's the link to Tessa's story.

Front Page is public, the story is Flocked on LJ. I sent her a request.

Rhianon Thanks! I friended her and left a comment on her journal, so hopefully I'll get to read some of it this weekend. Although it looks like her fanfic is set chronologically after all three of Constantine's Wraeththu books, so now I'm kind of debating whether to slog my way through them (do they get any better?!) or not. *lol*

Nicci Well, I would rather have you decide. I do remember throwing the book on the floor. LOL. Let's just say, I enjoy Tessa story. A lot.

Rhianon The premise for Constantine's series is definitely fascinating. Her portrayal of the characters leaves me flailing, unable to sympathize with any of them, lacking that emotive engagement that is _crucial_ for dragging your reader through the story, for making them _care_ enough to keep reading. It's just.... not there.
