The collapse of Army Group Center, the Soviet 'liberation' of Auschwitz, Soviet entry to Germany proper and the rending internal struggle between Soviet revenge and dignity of an invading army. What a book!

Reviewing Operation Bagration. A significant portion of the Operation's description is from the German point-of-view. I'm hoping later in the chapter there will be more individual coverage from the Soviet soldiers' point of view.

Soviets continue to push forward rapidly into Belorussia. I wasn't aware of the typhoid concentration camps set up by the German 9th Army, Army Group Center to infect the Soviet liberators - horrendous.

The Russians rapid advance from Kursk to West of the Dnieper. Delves deeply into what the soldiers saw of Hitler's scorched earth policy as the German Army retreated. Discusses the experience of the Partisans and peasants during the occupation.

I've completed the first chapter were Michael Jones summarizes the initially amazing results of Operation Barbarossa and ending with Germany's inability to capture Moscow before the Russian winter closes around them.

The second chapter is focused on the combat leading up to and including the fight around Stalingrad. I hadn't known prior to reading Total War that Stalingrad was a Soviet war refugee center.
