The author makes great use of flashback. we only get to see Author's last day on earth, yet we know about his whole life.

This story is linear. It go's from point to point in one time line.

The author builds suspense by having a huge alien army chasing after the main cast at all times.

The theme I see is that, we are much smaller then we think and can't understand what else is out their. Author woke up to defend his house from demolition and the flyer was in the basement of city hall where he could not see and the construction workers couldn't even grasp that their is one for earth on a far off planet the we could not see.

the three words are, towel, guide and, space.

Someone is a good reader when they take in what they read and thin on it. A good read knows a book not just reads a book.
