And so the shy but sociable Stefan Reicher Carter and the fascinating, spunky Emilee Horn are married! I didn't know my Mom's friend was half-Canadian by her Dad. It surely made moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba easy. I love learning that in her own subjects and private pursuits, Emilee was as well-educated and well-rounded as Stefan. She was an English teacher in a tough New York district, with a vast art background.

We made it to my home city, Winnipeg, in 1948. It is very educational to see what attitudes and life were like, at a time when my parents had scarcely been born. I can't wait for the part where Stefan meets the artist Emilee, presumably in New York. She was my Mom's friend!

The worst part is over. We move to my province and fair city: Winnipeg, Manitoba! I will get to see what post-wartime was like on my home turf.
I was shocked and sad to read that it wasn't only German "SS" who killed Jews! Polish militia killed a thousand surviving Jews, after the war was over?! After all they went to and how blessed the few unexterminated ones were to have survived? Fellow Poles?! I feel ill.

My Mom and Emilee Carter were friends, a New York visual artist. Emiliee ascended to Heaven in 2015. Unfortunately, so did my dear Mom, two months ago. It is hard to believe. My Dad is giving me family records and things that belonged to my Mom, included her books. I have Emilee's artbook and two by her husband, Dr. Stefan A. Carter. He sent me a warm condolence letter this week. I am eager to read their work.
