I wonder if Jacob would give up his life for the children. At first i thought that he would. They are very important to him, and they meant a lot to his deceased grandfather. However, when the widget asked Jacob if he would give up the lives of the children for himself, he seemed to hesitate.

I'm wondering how widgets have gotten away with so many murders. They are always hungry, therefore they need a lot of food to sustain them. Through their eyes, it would make sense to go after the peculiars; its what they really want, and they're always in the shadows. Peculiars hide in time loops that only them, and widgets can enter. Because no one knows about it, the widgets can't be reported for murder.

I think that Jacob's grandfather wanted to get away from the peculiar children for a reason. If the kids didn't really die then why would he leave? Maybe the kids formed a group for a reason other than the fact that they were all alike... The blurb states that "they may have been dangerous." This is why i think that Jacob's grandfather wanted to leave and give up an immortal life.
