"'RUN!' Katie shouted over her shoulder. 'Josh, take Kristen and run! He's got a gun! Get as far away as you can and hide!'" This shoes that even thought Josh and Kristen aren't Katie's kids, she still cares about them like they are her own and will risk her life to save theirs.

In my book, I think that Kevin will find Katie and Alex together in Southport. I think this will happen because all throughout the book Katie says that Kevin will never stop looking for her, and when she ran away before, he found her. Also, he almost found her this time she ran away but she was able to get away from him.

The theme of this book is value relationships. With Katie having troubles and having no one to talk to about them, life is hard. But when Katie gets a new neighbor, Jo, her life slowly becomes better. Katie wants to keep a low profile and not let anyone know about her horrifying past, but Jo seems to sneak out little things about Katie day by day. Jo helps Katie out as a friend, which Katie learns to appreciate.

The point of view in Safe Haven is third person limited. It helps my understand the text because it shows me Katie's past, and her opinions on stuff that she might not say out load, but is thinking. If told from a different point of view, I might be able to see more into Alex's past and what happened with his wife and his childhood.

Safe Haven relates to the book I previously read called Bittersweet because the main characters are both doing what they think is best for them. In Safe Haven, it's Katie moving to Southport away from her abusive husband, and in Bittersweet, is Hudson chooses to follow her figure skating dreams.

The author uses specific words to evoke a particular meaning/tone when Alex sees Josh drowning in the water and struggling for air. "Josh in the water, fully clothed and arms flailing, in panic." The word flailing shows that Josh couldn't swim and was struggling a lot for air and to stay above the water.

When Josh is pulled into the lake, Katie looks at the store camera monitor in shock, which makes Alex look at it and find Josh struggling to stay above the water for air. Alex runs out of the store to go save him, and barely makes it in time. The setting and actions contribute to the theme because it shows that you can't run away from harmful things forever, and that you never know what will happen next.
