I really enjoyed the first part. There was, though, always something familiar about the storyline. The second part introduced family none of which endeared themselves to me. By this time I had realised where I had heard the story before. There seemed to be a lot of tedious detail and when the most interesting character from the first part died, the grandmother, I got reluctant to open the book.
