I have had this set aside as one of the individual novels for years. I am surprised to see that some call it a prequel to Vicki Bliss but if she isn't in it, I suppose an individual mystery is truer.

This mystery started great but the stupidity resultant from comedy that Elizabeth began to attempt, is ruining the tone, seriousness, and respectability. It could sink to three stars, unless something moves or impresses me. Come on! Don't reserve all your atmosphere and mystique for the Barbara Michaels pseudonym! Mysteries and adventures without the paranormal can nevertheless, be great, if silliness is avoided!

I am enjoying this very much and am bouncing along through it. My sole criticism at the moment, which sees this knocked down to a four-star review, is the impossibility of chasers regularly finding out where the hider is and catching up with her. There is no way! Shticks like that are stupid and in 1969, Elizabeth ought to have known better.
