If I had never seen a Zebra before, I would probably also think they were horses that were painted black and white. But I might also think they are from a snowy place because of their coloring.

I think it's interesting that Piscine is practicing multiple religions at once. When the priest (christian), the pandit (hindu), and the imam (islam) were arguing about Pi practicing each of the other 2 religions, it made the plot a bit more interesting because now It's likely Pi has lost some of their trust. I'm glad that it shows these characters who seemed so nice before are shown being angry, it makes them human

I can tell that by learning about 2 more religions than his own and participating in them, he has a new way of viewing the world, and feels that everything is connected and in harmony.

Now i know why he's called Pi. it's short for Piscine, and people kept mispronouncing it and making fun of it

the author describes how Pi grew up with a zoo and how he would visit it every day. he mentions the misconception that being in a zoo is worse for an animal than being in the wild. the zoo is better, because the animals don't have to worry about food, water, shelter, predators, parasites or diseases
