Reads like eating a sweet snack, which would be gorgeous at 150 pages. At its existing length, I find it fairly dreadful and unfinishable. I like whimsy and canned machismo and cardboard cutouts more than most, but the book revels in a love of stories, many, many stories, devoid of characters or special insight or anything actually very strange. Marquez is smarter than his book and knew it, and so are we.
