Thoreau said, "I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor." I still believe that God gives us the will to do that, but gosh is it helpful to be told that you don't have to be determined by what others think of you. Next stop, learning about determinism!

Something great I just learned in the course of this book was the separation of the words 'Principles' and 'Values' stating that a band of thieves could have 'values' but principles are timeless character qualities--I'd compare them with the 'fruit of the spirit' because 'against such things there is no law'.
