"You must put away your sword if you would live in peace" (Hinds 247). This line from Athena serves as a good reminder for not only Odysseus but anyone who is looking for vengeance. Instead of taking up arms to get your revenge, it is better to become the adult of the situation and forgive other people.

"Another man would put his trust in some mortal, but not you; no, even with a god as your guardian, still you mistrust everything" (Hinds 197). This line greatly showcases how Odysseus has turned into a very cautious and paranoid person due to his life of suffering. Many people become very antisocial and never trust anyone due to the fact that they fear being betrayed like Odysseus.

"I would not turn away a man in need, for all beggars come in Zeus's name" (Hinds 157). This quote shows how religion can lead to the goodness of man. Although some religious teachings can make people ignorant, some can make people virtuous and kind towards others. Because all beggars come in Zeus' name, many Greeks would welcome those in need like fellow humans.

"If the gods wreck me again, I will suffer it, as I've suffered all before. Let it come" (Hinds 53). This line reflects how Odysseus has almost given up. He has accepted and embraced the fact that the gods are not in his favor. The punishments from the gods that will come will be nothing new and he is ready for it. As Odysseus has nothing more to lose, he is willing to face their wrath.
