A main idea that is protrayed in the subsection, "How come there are deserts?" is that deserts aren't that special. This is shown because the author states, "...deserts are actually commonplace..."(28). This shows that deserts aren't as unique as people think they are. They are very common and maybe shouldn't be thought of as special.
