Ah, what do we live for but to make sport for our neighbours and laugh at them in our turn? So many reviews are annoyed at the presumptiousness. What if we read it for the ridiculousness that it has like we were reading Austen instead of Barbery? I agree that too much of the philosophy in (at least the first third) of the book is gratuitous and I hope that will stop to make way for the story. So far, it is hilarious.
