Ruby was at a party when rain fell that can kill you in one drop, slowly and like torture. Ruby was lucky enough to get home safe from her friend who dropped her off, she had to stay in a separate room without her family cause they didn't know if she had gotten the rain on her. When she was a her mom and brother died from the rain, she is now left with her stepdad and has to survive off of what's left in her house.

Ruby goes out to get supplies and also saves all her neighbors dogs. she plans on going to London to find her dad so she drives with all the dogs in her car. But she goes to the school where Darius Spratt is and they get supplies together.

Ruby and Simon went to the supermarket to get supplies and it was very hectic. People everywhere were dead and Ruby and Simon still needed water and food so they stole from other people's houses. When they went into one house Simon had drank the poison water and died and now Ruby is on her own.
