Schlesinger has written an amazing book, but the omission of the Jacksonian "ppolicy" of stealing Native land and turning people out of their heritage land, and homes, and villages, has left me less than entusiastic to finish it. if i tend to the political history inside Washington at that time, it still is most likely one of the seminal books written on that period of time.

Dense and wonderfully concise, including letters and analysis of the ideology in that time, of what democracy meant for the governing for the people. It was written when Arthur Schlesinger was a young man, although he apologized later for leaving out some of the facts regarding Jackson's genocidal policy regarding American Indians. None the less, I learning so much.
