Sublinear vs superlinear growth - organic vs networked growth Plants grow sublinearly - 'they don't grow to the sky', but cities can grow indefinitely in that even if an individual component (resident, biz) dies, or even if an atomic bomb is dropped in it, in time it will grow back again (?!)
